Well I know I am in Georgia, the land of Gone with the Wind,  since  I spotted Rhett Butler in a window this morning.

We spent the morning wandering around the scenic city of Savannah.  Ralph and I have fond memories of this city and all of its friendly people.   We personally have experienced southern hospitality here.   Years ago through a local Rabbi, we were put in touch with a couple of bridge players.  They  met us at out hotel to direct  us to a bridge studio for a pot luck dinner and bridge game (the days before GPS units).  The next day they invited us to their home  and treated  us to lunch at their country club!  

Today's blog is mostly about the beautiful homes and gardens in the city a long with some pictures of the old buildings along the river.  Historic Savannah includes 22 park-like squares  and we have visited all of them.   A brief description follows the pictures.  

Beautiful homes are built around the squares where people like to spend time reading and enjoying the scenery.  I just love the Spanish Moss hanging from the oak  trees.  

Here is another scene from a different square.  It is very difficult to get a picture without cars and trees obstructing the view.

There are streets lined with these beautiful town homes.  In the past years we have gone into a few of them during the annual house and garden tour and they are just as nice inside as the outside.

One last one- I just liked the look of this typical  townhouse.

After a couple of hours we made our way down the steep hill to the river.

This is the River road where the tourists like to shop, eat, listen to music and sit beside the river.

Here is a picture of the river- it is a very commercial area so not especially scenic.   However, the bridge that separates Georgia and South Carolina is spectacular.  In past years we have taken a boat ride along the river.  

  We just had to stop at Vic's (a great friend of ours) coffee house.  

Finally an artistic  picture of a Savannah garden.   It is a bit early in the season to see really beautiful gardens.
