One thousand miles later we have arrived in  the land of  southern hospitality!  We have now driven in  Ontario, New York,  Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.   It was very exciting to watch the temperature go from 0 degrees celsius to 22 in one day.  Our first stop this morning was in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina where we stopped to take a picture and go for a walk in this very pretty area.  

Our next major stop was in Wilmington, North Carolina.  This very charming town has been the location of  several movies and TV shows such as Cape Fear,  Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill.  We spent about an hour and a half walking on the boardwalk next to "Cape Fear" River, and then in the historic district of beautiful, old  homes.  There were lots of shops and restaurants - kind of a mini Charleston or Savannah.  

On the way into town I noticed a very interesting National Cemetery.  I must have been influenced by the Costa Rica trip where one or two people wanted to stop in a Cemetery.   There were hundreds  of rows of graves filled with soldiers from the Civil War.  I managed to photograph a small section.

We arrived at Mrytle Beach around 7.  There was a gorgeous sunset which we watched from the car instead of the beach- timing is everything and ours was off tonight.  Oh well- there is always tomorrow.
