This was my first visit to  Arkansas.  I have to say the state reminded me of  Ontario with all of its lakes and Vermont with all of its hills.  One difference was that it is now nice and warm for this time of year and very green.  There were a few open spots in the mountains to see the views but  for the most part there were just too many trees so it was hard to see and we didn't come across any scenic  overlooks in our travels.  It certainly is a land full of state parks (no charge which was really nice) and lakes so it was very scenic once we were off the main highway.  We were only there for a couple of days but did were able to get a few hikes in.    Ralph and I both noticed how friendly everyone so we really enjoyed our experience here and hope to be back.  

Our first stop of the morning was to visit a natural rock  dam in Natural Dam, Arkansas.  This was located in the Ozark natural forest, in the Ozark Mountains.  Notice how green everything is.

We went on a very nice hike in the Ozarks in one of the state parks.  The hike was supposed to have a really nice waterfall but we just came across a very small one due to the lack of recent rains.

During our scenic drive I stopped to take a picture of these flowers growing on the side of the road.  They were everywhere.

As we approached Hot Springs, we came across this bridge and pond.  There was nice light since it was late afternoon.  

We went hiking at Lake Catharine  State Park in the Ouachita Mountains on our second day.  Here is a view taken from the top of the waterfall.

We hiked down to below the waterfalls to get a better look.  As you can see this waterfall was also quite small.  Still it was a very picturesque hike.  

This photo was taken in Hot Springs National Park.  The water coming out from the springs was extremely hot.  There are still bath houses today where you can go to bathe in the spring water.  People have been coming to this area for more than  200 years for treatment of various ailments.

One of the bath houses is now a museum.  This certainly did not look comfortable to me at all.  

Another area in the old bathing house.   Again- not very comfortable looking.  Of course the bathing houses now open to the public are probably very nice.
