Morning in Sedona

We spent the morning of April 2nd  in Sedona enjoying the beautiful scenery.   The area should have been made a National Park -unfortunately it was overlooked by the Roosevelt administration.     As we were leaving we thought that we should be staying an extra day.   Of course I say that pretty much every time we leave an area- if only we had one extra day.

We started the day going on a hike with Maureen, Ivor, Doris and James.    We walked part of the Bell Rock Path.   We spent almost two hours walking  not that we got that far.   There were a lot of interruptions  in the beginning with so many people  wanting  to pet the " Toronto kids".

Ok- I admit we also got slowed down by other distractions.  One was meeting Mr.  Cock-a-too.    His  wings were partly clipped so he couldn't fly too far away.  This gentleman not only walks his two dogs but takes his pet bird as well.   Most of the time the bird stayed put , however  he did fly off a couple of times and had to be retrieved  by his owner.   As you can see I intentionally  cut off  part of the owner as I promised him that I would not take his picture.

Bell Rock.   Check out the gorgeous red rocks and blue sky.  I did use a polarizer to help bring out the colours.

Another photo from the hike.

After the hike we stopped at the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona.  I had driven by it endless times so I thought this time we would actually drive up to it.  It is interesting in that it is built between two rocks.  It sure was busy- not a parking spot in site.  Next time we will actually walk up to the top so we can see the views.  It might be a great spot to watch the sunset.

We stopped along the road to photograph some rock formations.

On the way out of town, we stopped at a viewpoint (one of several).  This is a photo of the road leading to Oak Creek Canyon.

A scenic stop on the way to Oak Creek Canyon.

You can see the Oak Creek River from the road and the bridge crossing over the river.  You can actually hike down to the river- next time!

Here is a close up shot  of the bridge.
