Lions Head Photography workshop- Day one.

July 30, 2012  •  5 Comments

Some of the group went out to take pictures at sunrise.  I decided to sleep in and see Ralph off- I figured there would be enough early mornings for me late on in the week.  Our typical day for the week was to get up early for sunrise, come back to the house and meet up again at ten for a couple of hours before having a break until 2.  Then we would go somewhere to shoot and get back around ten at night.   So we had fairly long days.  Fortunately the weather was perfect although a storm or two would have been nice.

Our first outing was a walk on the Bruce Trail.   I liked the composition of this shot.

In this shot I deliberately increased the saturation and gave the photo a soft  look.

After our hike where I discovered the mosquitos were well and alive,  we drove to Dyer's Road  beside Georgian Bay where Don showed us  this waterfall on the side of the road.

I didn't have a telephoto lens so I just zoomed in as much as I could  and did some cropping in the final photograph.  I liked this B&W look.

On the other side of the road from the waterfall there were trails down to Georgian Bay.  Although it was not the right side of the peninsula  for seeing the sunset, the skies still had some nice colour.  It was a bit of a hike down and one of the guys warned us to be careful of poison ivy which was prevalent all around.   I thought I might have touched some hiking down the trail.  I  was told it would be a few days before there would be an effect if any.   Fortunately I was fine.

This was in the same place but looking in the  opposite direction from the last photo.

We headed towards Lake Huron on the opposite side of the peninsula  but we didn't have enough time to catch the sunset.  Instead we saw these farmers fields and saw some great colour in the sky and nice scenery so we stopped.

This was Don looking around for the best photo opportunities.  I happened to like this tree.

I really liked this scene  even more as it got darker and we started to get some colour in the sky.

On the other side of the road was a huge pasture- you can see the cows in the distance and a great sky colour.

A close up view of the grass and water.

As it got later the sky got even more colourful.

This was one of the last shots of the evening.  Everyone was getting pretty tired by now but we all wanted that last shot so no one was in a hurry to get back.

Another fine set of photos, Marsha! The monotone-ish photo of the water rushing over the rocks is very dramatic ... love it!

Nice Marsha--I like the last one and the third from end--with the water and grass and color from the sunset

Great pictures again. I really liked the last five - the colours are great. I like what you did with the waterfall as well.
