In the afternoon the group of us headed out to see and hike around the Grotto located in the Bruce Peninsula National Park. The Grotto is a big cave on the shore carved out of by the waves of Georgian Bay. We parked at the Bruce trail parking lot and hiked all around the area.
This shot was taken on our way to the Grotto.
I included this picture of one of our group just to show you the rocks we were climbing around on. Some of the party stayed behind because for those not used to hiking it was a bit treacherous in spots.
Here was our fearless leader- perhaps looking for the best spot to get to the cave. There are no signs, stairs or handrails anywhere around. In order to get to the cave, I had to hand my camera and tripod down a hole to Don and then jump partway and hope he caught me. Of course I couldn't see anything at the time so yes it was a bit scary. There is a different way of getting to the cave but we took the shortcut.
Here is the famous Grotto Cave. It was stunning and well worth all of the required rock climbing/descending.
Here is a slightly different view of it. When we were there no one was swimming or diving in but it is a popular swimming spot in the summer months.
While the four of us were in the cave we stepped out and saw these girls climbing in the rocks. They joined us in the cave but from a different approach.
They came to join us in the cave. They were such a nice family and liked having their pictures taken. On the hike back to the car their whole family joined us so we had more time to chat.
Don spent some time talking to them and showing them the cave.
This was a shot taken on the way back from the cave.
Here is another photo taken in the same area. You can tell how much I like the rocks/boulders beside the water.
I loved the colours in the water.
This woman was sitting admiring the view. It turned out she was the aunt of the girls we talked to at the cave.
It was a perfect day- lots of sunshine and interesting clouds.
We had brought a picnic dinner so we picked a spot over looking Indian Head Cover close to the Grotto.
A close up of our new friends hiking and climbing in the rocks.
This girl loved to climb and was very good at it.
Here is a view from a little further back.
We had visitors while eating dinner.
Obviously they are quite used to people feeding them.
